Like Heidegger said, questioning builds a way.
Questioning is a major form of human thought and interpersonal communication. The thinker employs a series of questions to explore an issue, an idea or something intriguing. Questioning is the process of forming and wielding that series to develop answers and insight. (Wikipedia)
There are these four ways of answering questions.Which four?
- There are questions that should be answered categorically [straightforwardly yes, no, this, that].
- There are questions that should be answered with an analytical (qualified) answer [defining or redefining the terms].
- There are questions that should be answered with a counter-question.
- There are questions that should be put aside.
These are the four ways of answering questions.
A question may be either a linguistic expression used to make a request for information, or else the request itself
What is it?
The practice of asking oneself what one is doing.
What is it useful for?
If you are able to ask yourself the question- should I be doing this? Where do I come from? Why am I here? Who am I then you can increase your level of self-knowledge. This is useful and important because knowing about yourself is as important as knowing about anything outside yourself. Know how you will react in situations, what your goals are, your motivations, strengths, weaknesses. In addition, inside is composed of the same as what is outside, so learning about inside, will increase your knowledge of ‘outside’.
How do I do it
Its up to the individual to practice self questioning. It can be done anywhere.
Ask yourself… what are you doing right now? Why are you doing that? Should you be doing it?
If you know of good practioners of self-questioning, please add them here. If you have some more information please add that here. Self-questioning can increase self-knowledge but it can also result in too much being ‘in the mind’ as opposed to being ‘in the world’? There are many methods for self-questioning. Please at your own practices here.
